Questions and answers
Short answers to the questions people ask most.
Why does a job show only a state?
Some listings, mostly in bid service emails, give the state but not the city or county. BidTroller shows what the source gives and marks it city not listed by source. With no city or county there are no miles, so the Miles column says Not stated. Open the job and its documents to find the site. If BidTroller got the place wrong, send it as Wrong details on the Feedback page.
Why don’t I see jobs with no location when I filter by miles?
On the dashboard, the Within miles filter keeps only jobs with a known distance. Clear that box to see the rest. Notifications work the other way: jobs with no stated location still reach you, so you don’t miss them.
Why are distances straight-line miles?
BidTroller measures a straight line from each of your offices to the job. It is fast, and it works the same for every job. Driving miles will be longer. When only the county is known, BidTroller measures to the center of the county and marks it county.
Why isn’t a bid site being checked?
A few reasons:
- The site asks bots not to visit. BidTroller follows each site’s robots.txt file, the standard way a site says which pages bots may read. If a site says no, we don’t check it.
- The site needs a login. BidTroller only reads public pages. Member pages on sites like DemandStar or BidNet Direct need a supplier login, so we can’t read them. Register with the site for free and have its alert emails come to your mailbox. Your forwarding rule then sends them to BidTroller. See Email forwarding.
- It’s a paid bid service. We never sign in to ConstructConnect, Dodge, BuildingConnected, PlanHub or SmartBid. Their jobs reach BidTroller through the emails you forward.
- Nobody has added it yet. Send the address on the Feedback page, or an admin can add it. See Admin.
How do I report a bid BidTroller missed?
Open Feedback, pick A bid BidTroller missed, and give the project name, where you saw it and the bid date. Paste the link if you have it. Each missed bid tells us which site or email to add. See Feedback and sign-offs.
The same job shows up twice. What do I do?
BidTroller merges listings of the same project from different sites into one job. When it misses one, send it as The same job shows up twice on the Feedback page.
What does the Fence fit percentage mean?
It is how sure BidTroller is that the job includes fence work. 70% or higher is Likely, 30% to 69% is Possible, and under 30% is Unlikely. Nothing is hidden because of it. If a call looks wrong, tell us with Wrong fence call on the Feedback page, and vote 👍 or 👎 on the job.
What does “Needs a check” mean?
Something about the listing looked off, so a person should take a look. The job page shows the reason. Read the original listing before you rely on that detail.
Why doesn’t a job have any files?
Public bid sites usually keep documents on their own pages, so use the link under Found on. SAM.gov documents are not pulled in yet. BidNet shows documents only to registered suppliers. Files that look unsafe are blocked and not stored.
What time zone does BidTroller use?
Central time, everywhere: the dashboard, job pages, calendar, export and emails.
